Effective Skin Care Treatments That Are Safe for New Moms
Congratulations on becoming a new mommy!
Although your days are probably filled up by taking care of and loving your little bundle of joy for the foreseeable future, it’s important not to neglect yourself.
After pregnancy, you may notice some changes to your facial skin and body. But don’t panic – there are incredible solutions!
But before you undergo any cosmetic procedure or try a new skin care regimen, it’s important to consult with your doctor, especially if you are breastfeeding, to ensure your own safety along with your baby’s.
Skin care Products Safe for Mom and Baby
Before we jump into cosmetic treatments, whether you are still pregnant or have just given birth, here are some effective skin care products to try that can safely treat some common skin concerns that come with being a new mom, such as dry skin, acne, and excess sweating.

Minimally Invasive Treatments for New Mothers
Taking care of your skin plays a huge role in looking and feeling your best after having a baby. But for faster, more visible results, here are some popular, minimally invasive, nonsurgical cosmetic treatments.
CoolSculpting®
Having a baby changes your body in so many ways – you did grow a human for 9 months after all, you Rockstar! –but some changes are more visible than others.
You know exactly which areas of your body you might be interested in discussing with our SKINS Derma Care team. They’ll not only understand your needs, but offer you a safe, inclusive environment for you to discuss your concerns. Most of them are mothers themselves, after all! If you find this is the case and are looking for a solution, CoolSculpting® can help.
CoolSculpting® is a body contouring treatment that freezes fat cells in the treatment area and effectively destroying them. Once the fat cells have been destroyed, your body will gradually eliminate them over the next few months.
The treatment does not produce instant results, but with some patience, you will see a reduction of fat around the treatment area by 20% to 25%. Most people will require multiple treatments to see stronger results.
CoolSculpting® is not a weight-loss treatment and will only eliminate fat cells in the treatment area, so it is only effective for people who are looking to lose a maximum of 20 lbs. Without maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly, the fat cells will return.
Microneedling
Microneedling is a treatment that involves using several small, sterile needles to puncture the skin and cause minor physical trauma in order to amp up collagen production. This helps to treat a variety of different skin concerns, including wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, age spots, acne, rosacea, and large pores.
While this might sound frightening, we promise it is not. Just hear us out.
While microneedling can be an uncomfortable procedure, it is not painful, and can be described as feeling like a quick sting or insect bite. And to ease any discomfort, a topical numbing cream can be applied to the skin prior to the procedure.
TriLipo™ Cellulite Treatment
TriLipo™ is ideal for reducing cellulite and treating loose skin. It works by using radiofrequency technology to help the body produce more collagen and elastin, firm the skin, metabolize fat cells, and dramatically reduce the appearance of cellulite.
And the best part is, unlike other treatments, TriLipo™ delivers immediate results.
Microdermabrasion
Due to hormonal changes, becoming a new mom can bring on a whole new set of skin issues you had never previously experienced, such as acne and dry, uneven skin.
But with microdermabrasion treatments, you can help restore that pregnancy glow.
Microdermabrasion is non-invasive and works by using a controlled flow of crystals to gently exfoliate the skin and uncover smoother, more youthful skin underneath.
Other Skin care Tips for Moms
Good skin care starts at home, so taking care of yourself and following a proper skin care routine is the best place to start when it comes to any post-pregnancy skin issues. Here are a few of our top skin care tips for new moms.
Stay Hydrated
Drinking water is not only good for your overall health but your skin too!
While it might not seem like it, your skin is an organ, and just like any other organ in the body, your skin is made up of cells that are made up of water. Without hydration, your organs will not be able to function properly.
So, when you aren’t drinking enough water, your skin becomes dry, tight and flaky, and more prone to wrinkles.
Be sure to drink lots of water –around 2 litres a day– and keep your skin moisturized to make sure it always looks and feels its best.
Keep Your Skin Clean and Moisturized
As a new mom, you’re bound to get your hands –and skin– pretty dirty. But when you don’t clean your face at the beginning and end of every day, oil, dirt, and bacteria can build up and clog your pores, leading to acne and other skin problems.
Keep your skin clean by cleansing it twice a day with a gentle cleanser to remove any makeup, baby food, spit-up, or other residue.
No matter what your skin type is, be sure to always moisturize after you wash your face to help keep your skin balanced.
Protect You Skin from the Sun
When you take your baby out in the sun, you don’t think twice about making sure they are completely covered, have a hat, and are slathered in ample amounts of sunscreen to protect them from the harmful rays. So why don’t we take the same caution when it comes to our own skin?
Anytime you go out in the sun, make sure you are wearing a sunscreen with a minimum of 30 SPF, and reapply frequently.
But keep in mind that not all sunscreens are created equally. Some research suggests that certain ingredients found in some sunscreens can be dangerous to wear while breastfeeding.
Air on the side of caution and avoid sunscreens that contain retinoids, Oxybenzone, and Octinoxate. And stop by SKINS Derma Care for organic, safe, and effective SPF facial sunscreens.
Pre and Post Pregnancy Facials
If you’re looking to treat yourself to a little pampering, SKINS Derma Care offers a variety of different facials for all skin types and conditions that are suitable both before after pregnancy. Regardless of which type you choose, a professional facial will make you feel more relaxed, while also restoring, reviving, and transforming your skin’s appearance and texture
